Is a foreign language always needed to study abroad?
Some programs require knowledge of a foreign language and others are delivered in English. Study abroad is always a great opportunity to learn a new language through immersion and you may elect to take the courses on a pass/fail basis to avoid the possibility of your GPA being adversely impacted by a low grade in a new language.

For how long should I plan on studying abroad?
You may study abroad in the summer, for one semester or for a year. In general, the longer the better because you will need some time to settle in your new environment and to totally immerse yourself in a foreign culture so as to maximize the benefits of the experience. If for one reason or another you are unable to spend that much time overseas, you may be able to participate in Abroad Experiences that last one to two weeks (see section on current programs). While these short programs will not provide you with a full study abroad experience, they provide a great introduction to international experience and usually serve as the catalyst for future longer trips abroad.

•    Pick up, fill out and have your advisor sign a Consortium Agreement Form. Forms may be picked up from the Study Abroad Office or the Registrar’s Office or the Student Desk in the Henry Student Center. This ensures your credits will transfer to Wilkes,
