MOSAIC (Maximizing Opportunities for Students to Achieve an Inclusive Campus)
The mission of Wilkes University is to prepare students to be successful in our ever changing multicultural world. Newly formed, this unique community offers students an intercultural living environment that embraces all forms of diversity. Students will be encouraged to engage in dialogue about social justice, diversity, and inclusivity and develop tools to move beyond tolerance to understanding and empathy with people of different backgrounds or situations.
Students interested in this LC would be registered for an FYF course in the fall, Cross Cultural Dialogue. The course is designed to provide students with an understanding of self-identity development through cultural experiences. The class will explore the views and cultures of others to gain a better appreciation for diversity, thus creating a more inclusive campus environment. The students will also work as a team to develop a community service project.
In the spring semester, students may enroll in a communication studies course, Fundamentals of Public Speaking, which counts towards your distribution requirement. In this course, you will be exposed to the principles of study, application and evaluation of public speaking as it relates to social justice and diversity issues. This course also requires a community service commitment.
Housing for this LC has been assigned to Evans Hall. Space is limited so if you are interested, please be sure to indicate your preference on the Orientation Portal page. This year’s program will be lead by Faculty Fellow, Dr. Evene Estiwick, Assistant Professor in Communication Studies. For more information, please contact us at learning@wilkes.edu
