Student Spotlight

Makia Stocker

Wilkes is the right school for me - it has friendly faculty, staff, students, and an overall 'at home' feeling.

Major/Minor: Psychology Major, Women’s and Gender Studies Minor

Year of Graduation: 2017

Hometown: Tamaqua

Activities On and Off Campus: Psychology Club, Programming Board, Big Event Committee, and Community Service Volunteer.

Career Aspirations: I would love to go on to graduate school to acquire my masters in Psychology; I then want to become a family counselor. I love helping people, that’s what I want to be doing for the rest of my life.

Most Worthwhile Mentoring Experience:
Mentors here at Wilkes have really helped me in transitioning from high school to college. My e-mentor Thalia Garzon, is such a sweet caring person, she did everything she could to make sure I felt welcomed when I came here to Wilkes. I don’t know what I would have done if it wasn’t for her.

Best thing about being a student at Wilkes University: My favorite thing about being a student at Wilkes is the small campus. It gives you the opportunity to get to know the other students and teachers better than if you went to a large university.

Why Wilkes: I chose Wilkes U for many reasons, but the main reason was that Wilkes is the right school for me - it has friendly faculty, staff, students, and and an overall “at home” feeling.
