Beverly Donofrio –Memoirist, Print and Radio Essayist, Middle-grade and Children’s Book author.
Beverly Donofrio is a memoirist, print and radio essayist, middle-grade and children’s book author. Donofrio’s accomplishments cover various fields and her work has gained national attention. Her latest memoir, Astonished (A Story of Evil Blessings, Grace, and Solace) was released in 2013 to critical acclaim. Her first memoir, Riding in Cars With Boys, a New York Times bestseller, was adapted into a popular movie by the same name. Her second memoir, Looking for Mary (Or, The Blessed Mother and Me), was chosen by Barnes and Noble for its Discover Series. Her first picture book,Mary and the Mouse, the Mouse and Mary was released in 2007 and was named a Best Book of 2007 as well as a Top Ten Children’s Book by Amazon.com, and in 2013 was named by Publisher’s Weekly as one of 10 Children's Books That Never Get Old. Its sequel, Where’s Mommy? will be released in March, 2014. Thank you Lucky Stars, her middle-grade novel, was published in 2008. Her personal essays have appeared in national periodicals in print and on the Internet, including The New York Times, LA Times, Village Voice, O, the Oprah Magazine, the Washington Post, Slate, The Huffington Post, More, Self, Allure, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Spirituality and Health, as well as in over a dozen anthologies. The most current, Faith: Believers, Agnostics, and Athiests Confront the Big Questions, will be released by Simon & Schuster in 2014. She has taught writing courses at the University of Wyoming and NYU. In addition, she was a founder of the San Miguel Writers Workshops in Mexico, and for four years was president of the English speaking chapter in Mexico of PEN International. She is currently working on a stage adaptation of Astonished, called Rape: the Musical.
