Beverly Donofrio –Memoirist, Print and Radio Essayist, Middle-grade and Children’s Book author.
Beverly Donofrio’s accomplishments cover various fields and her work has gained national attention. Her first memoir, RIDING IN CARS WITH BOYS, was chosen as Best Book for Young Adults by the American Library Association, and in 2001, it was released as a popular movie. Her second memoir, LOOKING FOR MARY (OR, THE BLESSED MOTHER AND ME), was chosen by Barnes and Noble for its Discover Series. Her first picture book, MARY AND THE MOUSE, THE MOUSE AND MARY, was released in 2007 and was named a Best Book of 2007 as well as a Top Ten Children’s Book by Amazon.com. Its sequel MARIA AND MOUSE MOUSE will appear in 2013. THANK YOU, LUCKY STARS, her middle-grade novel, was published in 2008. Her personal essays have appeared in national periodicals, including the LA TIMES, VILLAGE VOICE, O, THE OPRAH MAGAZINE, the WASHINGTON POST, MORE, ALLURE, MARIE CLAIR, COSMOPOLITAN and SPIRITUALITY AND HEALTH as well as in a over a dozen anthologies. The most current, HE SAID WHAT?, was published by Seal Press in 2011. She has taught writing courses at the University of Wyoming and NYU. In addition, she was a founder of the San Miguel Writers Workshops in Mexico, and for four years was president of the English speaking chapter in Mexico of PEN International. After leaving the Colorado hermitage in which she lived for four years, she is working on her third memoir, ASTONISHED, (A STORY OF EVIL, BLESSINGS, GRACE, AND SOLACE) to be released in March 2013 by Viking/Penguin.
