Portrait of One’s SELF
Schedule: February 9th- April 29th, Saturday 2:30 to 4:00 pm
Tuition: $100
Is there a difference between conscious objective art and subjective formatory art? Explore this question in this 8-week course by learning to use the sensing center of one’s brain, active and passive body movement, and music specifically composed to stimulate emotions. Seeing, sensing, and moving, both objectively and subjectively, one will draw on experiences to produce an objective self portrait in the form of a mandala (a circle of wisdom), and a subjective portrait with charcoal and paper. One’s objective image will be part of THE CHILDREN’S MANDALA for PEACE, one of the first objective pieces of art created by youth. It will go on display at the Conservatory, and be available for traveling exhibition. Free demonstration for children and parents Monday, Feb. 4th from 5:30 to 6:30pm. Must call ahead to make reservation.              

Ryan and Patrick’s Puppetry Workshop
Schedule: March 8th- March 29th, Saturday 1:00 to 2:30 pm
Tuition: $100
Instructors: Ryan Dillon and Patrick Holmes
Students will enjoy lively, hands-on exploration of professional puppet techniques in this 4 week class. Besides being pure fun for the young at heart, puppetry is an innovative medium for teachers, therapists, actors and caregivers, whether awakening creative thinking through play or opening new channels of communication with a non-threatening approach. Topics will include puppet lip synch, puppet eye focus and puppet posture. Students will explore theatre puppetry and may also touch on video camera puppetry if time permits. This workshop will emphasize the importance of acting with a puppet, movement, performing in group scenes and puppet assistance (right handing). Students will also have fun learning the behind the scenes aspects of shows such a Sesame Street, and willhave an opportunity to participate in a culminating performance.

DANCE

Indian Classical Dance
Ages: 5-Adult 
Schedule: January 18th-May 10th, Friday 5:00 to 5:45pm, or 5:45 to 6:30pm

This 14-session course offers an opportunity to learn Bharata Natyam, a style of Indian Classical Dance which originated over 2000 years ago in the Hindu temples of South India. This coursework will include basic steps, movements, and hand gestures, as well as an introduction to the history, style and rhythmic base. Beginner and intermediate classes as well as private instruction are available. Students continuing spring semester instruction may have an opportunity to perform in the annual dance recital and evening of Indian Culture.
