Rashidah Ismaili Abubakr -- Poet, Playwright. Rashidah Ismaili Abubakr’s chapbooks, CANTATA FOR JIMMY and MISSING IN ACTION AND PRESUMED DEAD, are available from Africa World Press. She was the recipient of the Sojourner Truth Award from the National Black Professional Women in 2008.   She has participated in two memorials for Sekou Sundiata. Two of her poems were set to a suite by a composer, Joyce Solomon Moorman. Her play, RICEKEEPERS, was selected for the International Women Playwriters Festival. She is also actively involved in the governance of the Pen and Brush, an organization of professional women in the arts; music, performance, writing, visuals and crafts. In addition, she is the second vice president and chair of the PEN and Performing Arts section. She also conducts salons in her apartment, Salon d’Afrique, with artists, intellectuals, cultural workers and friends.
