Environmental Sustainability

Part of the mission of The Institute of Environmental Science and Sustainability is to provide information to the public of Northeastern Pennsylvania about matters of local as well as national environmental concern. Topics of local importance include acid mine drainage and abandoned mine lands restoration, the effects of urban sprawl on landscapes and watersheds, surface and ground water quality, flood prevention, wetland restoration, and sustainable energy utilization and development. Faculty members associated with the Institute are actively investigating several of these areas and are providing information and expertise to local agencies and governments. Our faculty is also assisting the efforts of Wilkes University to reduce its environmental footprint.
