Wilkes University 2014 Pharmacy Graduates Pursue Post-Graduate Training, Set University Record

Contact: Vicki Mayk

Twenty-four Wilkes University 2014 Doctor of Pharmacy graduates will pursue post-graduate training across the country. Nationwide, approximately 18 percent of pharmacy graduates pursue residency training. At Wilkes, 24 percent of the graduating class matched with residency programs, exceeding the national average. Including fellowships, 35 percent of the graduating class will pursue post-graduate training, setting a University record.

Post-graduate training in the pharmacy field includes residencies, fellowships and doctorate programs. Although not required for practice, the training allows pharmacists to work in advanced positions within the profession. Residencies may be a one- or two-year commitment, and fellowships follow a two-year specialized track. The select number of graduates awarded a post-graduate position adds to the honor and value of this opportunity.
