Wilkes University United Nations Speaker Series Hosts U.N. Ambassador Ahmed Sareer on April 24

The Wilkes University United Nations Speaker Series will feature Ahmed Sareer, permanent mission of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations, on Thursday, April 24 at 4 p.m. in the Henry Student Center Miller Room. Sareer will speak about climate change and the Maldives. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Before his current appointment as permanent representative, Sareer served as the high commissioner of Maldives to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Past appointments include deputy high commissioner in London, charge d’affaires to the European Union and counselor and deputy high commissioner in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He began his foreign service career in 1986 at the Ministry Foreign Affairs and held various positions, including director general.
Sareer attended university in Australia, where he received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Canberra and a master’s degree in foreign affairs and trade from Monash University. He also attended a foreign service training program conducted by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
