Contact: Vicki Mayk

Wilkes University’s Jay S. Sidhu School of Business and Leadership and its Family Business Forum have announced that Dick Kane, vice chairman of the board of directors of Kane Is Able, will be executive in residence for fall semester 2013. In this role, Kane will lend his expertise as a family business owner to team teach a course in family business ownership with Jeffrey Alves, dean of the Sidhu School.  Kane also will share his knowledge with Wilkes business students and Family Business Forum members outside the classroom.

The course on family business will be a three-credit course offered for credit to Wilkes students. Non-Wilkes students, including members of the Family Business Forum and local business people, can take the course for credit as a visiting student paying full tuition. Visiting students also can audit the course for half tuition.

Kane, a 35-year veteran of the logistics industry, has been instrumental in facilitating the Family Business Forum’s transition to Wilkes from its former home at King’s College. As a family business owner, he has been actively involved with the forum since its inception.

Kane Is Able is a third-party logistics provider that helps consumer packaged goods companies warehouse and distribute goods throughout the U.S. Founded in 1930 by Edward Kane, Dick Kane’s grandfather, the company has grown into a national leader in logistics.

Kane began his career in daily operations at Kane Is Able. During his tenure as CEO, he guided the strategic direction of the corporate entities, consistently generating double-digit growth. He helped transform the company from a regional transportation and warehousing operation into a national logistics solution provider.

Kane is known for his commitment to innovation and a motivational leadership style. He is a proud member of multiple industry associations, including IWLA (International Warehouse Logistics Association), the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) and the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. He also has been active with Vistage an international group for CEOs and business owners. He is a frequent speaker at supply chain conferences.
