The community will be the beneficiary when more than 400 Wilkes University students volunteer during The Big Event on Sunday, April 7. Wilkes students, faculty, staff and alumni will gather at the Henry Student Center at 9 a.m. before being transported to sites in Luzerne County where they’ll pitch on a variety of tasks, from raking yards and painting fences to cleaning up flood damage.
Wilkes teams will be working in the community from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Media are invited to cover the event. Locations where Wilkes University teams will be working include:
- Nesbitt Park
- Bear Creek Camp, 3601 Bear Creek Blvd., Bear Creek
- Blue Chip Farms Animal Rescue, 974 Lockville Road, Dallas
- JCC Camp, Route 415, Dallas
The Big Event was founded at Texas A&M University in 1982. Since then, The Big Event has seen tremendous growth and change over the years. Already the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation, The Big Event has expanded to 75 other schools across the nation.
