Contact: Vicki Mayk

WILKES-BARRE, PA. – Wilkes University will present Eve Ensler’s episodic play The Vagina Monologues Feb. 8 -9 at 7 p.m.

The Vagina Monologues is an episodic play written by Eve Ensler and originally performed as a one-woman show. The show originally ran at the Off-Broadway Westside Theater in New York City. The production features various women performing monologues about aspects of the feminine experience. Subjects broached include sex, love, rape, birth, and the theme of female genitalia as a tool to help further female empowerment.

Wilkes University’s production is one of hundreds held around the world to raise money for women’s anti-violence groups. The movement, started in 1996, has now launched a global V-Day, which has raised over $75 million dollars.

The play will be held in the Henry Student Center Ballroom. Admission is free to Wilkes students, $5 for non-Wilkes students, and general admission is $10. The production is sponsored by Mark Allen, Wikes Dean of Students Affairs, Linda Winkler, Dean of the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, and Wilkes University Student Government.
