Wilkes University Video Class Airs Community Service Program Focusing on Downtown Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, PA. (Nov. 13, 2012) – A community service program entitled "Wilkes-Barre Making a Difference" on Service Electric channel 97. The program was produced by the basic video production class in Wilkes University’s Department of Communication Studies.


The half-hour long program will focus on how Wilkes University, its students, downtown businesses and not-for-profit organizations contribute to the well being of the downtown area. Hosted by Wilkes junior Dominick Costantino, produced by junior Laura Preby and directed by senior Amanda Leonard, the show was taped recently in the Thomas P. Shelburne Telecommunications Center in the basement of Stark Learning Center on the Wilkes campus.


It will be aired on the nights of Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. and re-aired on the nights of Nov. 20 and 22 at 8 p.m. on Service Electric channel 97. Wilkes President Patrick Leahy, Wilkes Civic Engagement Coordinator Megan Valkenburg, CEO of the Luzerne Foundation Charles Barber andRodano's spokeswoman Mary Ricci were featured guests.  


About the Shelburne Television Center at Wilkes University:

The Thomas P. Shelburne Telecommunications Center educates young media professionals and provides services to the local community by managing and programming educational-access cable channel 97 for Service Electric, Wilkes-Barre and one closed-circuit channel. The studio is an 8,000-square-foot, 14-room facility that houses three television production studios, one master control center for program and cable operations, and one state-of-the-art production control center for all studios. The center also contains three editing suites with analog and digital capabilities, one audio recording suite, and industrial- and professional-grade field production equipment. The station broadcasts several student-produced programs including Wilkes Now, which airs live at Tuesdays at noon and weeknights at 7:30 p.m.
