Wilkes University Science Programs Receive Gift from First National Community Bank
WILKES-BARRE, PA. (Oct. 4, 2012) – First National Community Bank (FNCB), the largest community bank in Northeastern Pennsylvania, recently made a gift to Wilkes University through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program. This gift will support innovative programming at Wilkes including Science in Motion, Women Empowered by Science, and Adventures in Science.
Science in Motion enables Wilkes mobile educators to present labs utilizing high tech instrumentation to high school science students. Women Empowered by Science is a program designed for young women entering grades seven and eight who show a sincere interest in science. Adventures in Science brings fifth grade students on to Wilkes University campus annually to participate in science experiments and workshops. These programs exemplify the University’s commitment to providing multiple opportunities for strengthening engagement with science among students in public schools.
The support of Wilkes University represents part of FNCB’s larger Community Caring initiative. Through outreach programs, donations and an employee volunteer network, FNCB is committed to helping the communities they serve.
