WILKES-BARRE, PA. (Sept. 10, 2012) – John Hepp, an associate professor of history at Wilkes University, has published an essay in the Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia. Hepp submitted an essay on omnibuses, one of the earliest forms of public transportation in Philadelphia. The submission inspired the Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia to open a new subject category called “Transportation,” featuring Hepp’s work.
Hepp teaches American urban and cultural history with an emphasis on the period 1800 to 1940. His essay included an original map of omnibus routes based on his research at the Hagley Library in Wilmington, Delaware. The Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia plans to continue adding essays on additional forms of public transportation in the future.
