Crestwood High School Wins Wilkes University Engineering Olympics

 Crestwood High School beat out nine other teams to win bragging rights, a trophy and $40,000 in scholarship money by placing first overall in the second annual Engineering Olympics held April 8 at Wilkes University. The day-long event was held in the Arnaud C. Marts Sports and Conference Center. The event is sponsored by the University’s Division of Engineering and the Wilkes chapter of IEEE (also know as I-Triple E or the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.)

The team from E.L. Meyers High School snagged second-place overall with the team from LaSalle College High School of Glenside, Pa. taking third-place honors.
 
Each team member on the first-place team wins a $1,000/year scholarship to Wilkes University -- a total of $4,000 each over four years.
 
Schools competed in five hands-on engineering activities that included a skyscraper building competition, launcher design competition, building a self-propelled vehicle, an electrical circuit competition and devising a macgyver – a device designed for retrieving an item from a narrow tube.  
 
Participating schools included Crestwood High School, Dunmore High School, La Salle College High School, Forest City Regional High School, E.L. Meyers High School, Greater Nanticoke Area High School, Hamburg High School, Pittston High School, Pottsville Area High School and Susquehanna Community High School.

Skyscraper building:
1st Place: Crestwood High School
2nd Place: Pottsville Area High School
3rd Place: Hamburg High School
 
Electrical Circuit:
1st Place: Susquehanna Community High School
2nd Place: E.L. Meyers High School
3rd Place: Crestwood High School
 
Self-Propelled Vehicle:
1st Place: E.L. Meyers High School
2nd Place: Dunmore High School
3rd Place: Hamburg High School
 
MacGyver Competition:
1st Place: Pottsville Area High School
2nd Place: Crestwood High School
3rd Place: Hamburg High School
 
Launcher Design:
1st Place: LaSalle College High School
2nd Place: Forest City High School
3rd Place: Pittston High School
