Record Number of Pharmacy Graduates Pursue Post-Graduate Training

Congratulations to this year’s Doctor of Pharmacy graduates who will represent Wilkes University across the country in post-graduate training!

Since the first graduating class of Doctor of Pharmacy students in 2000, between 10-15 percent of graduates from each class pursue post-graduate training. This year, over 20 percent of the 2009 class has been awarded this privilege. According to Department of Pharmacy Practice Chair Dr. Edward Foote, “This is certainly a record!”

Although post-graduate training for pharmacists is not new, it is not required for practice. The graduates committing to this training sacrifice time and income to further advance their career and impact the health of patients. Adam Napolitano, Pharm.D. Candidate, Class of 2009 writes, “I know that completing a residency will help me develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed.”

Only a select number of graduates are awarded a residency or other post-graduate position, adding to the honor and value of the opportunity.

As a community, we congratulate them on receiving this honor and wish them good luck!
