Dr. Michelle Horn
|
Wilkes University’s Nesbitt College of Pharmacy and Nursing welcomes Aaron Burton, Pharm.D. and Michelle Horn, Pharm.D., to Post Graduate Year (PGY) residencies within the School of Pharmacy.
Horn has been selected for a PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency under the direction of Dr. Eric A. Wright, associate professor of pharmacy practice, and Dr. Jonathan Ference, assistant professor of pharmacy practice.
The PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency is fully-accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and offers residents an opportunity to practice in a Veterans Affairs hospital as well as a family medicine residency training program. In addition to providing medication therapy management and direct care to patients in the community, residents also gain experience in teaching pharmacy students in the classroom and at clinical sites.
Horn will practice at the Wilkes-Barre Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center and Wyoming Valley Family Medicine Practice in Kingston. She will also teach several courses in the pharmacy curriculum and will serve as primary preceptor for a cohort of fourth year pharmacy students in the advanced pharmacy practice experience.
Horn is a 2007 graduate of the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy. Following graduation, she completed the University’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with Emphasis in Community Care in partnership with Walgreen’s Pharmacy. Prior to entering pharmacy school, Horn taught high school algebra at West Charlotte High School in Charlotte, N.C. and also coached volleyball there for two years. Upon completion of her Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency, she plans to pursue a career in academia. Horn holds certifications in immunizations, diabetes care and lipid management and is a member of several professional organizations including the American Pharmacist Association (APhA) and American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).

Dr. Aaron Burton
|
Burton has been selected for a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency under the direction of Dr. Dominick Trombetta, associate professor of pharmacy practice. The PGY-1 residency is conducted in conjunction with Allied Services Rehabilitation Hospital, providing the training environment for the residency program which emphasizes the care of elderly patients. The residency is also affiliated with Moses Taylor Hospital, an acute care teaching hospital where the resident can gain practical experience in medication use and the dispensing processes.
Burton will practice at the Moses Taylor Hospital and Allied Rehab Hospital sites in the Scranton area. He will also assist in teaching several courses at the university, including longitudinal care, care lab, and pharmacotherapeutics.
Burton is a 2008 graduate of the University of Connecticut and an active member of the American Pharmacist Association (APhA) and American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP). His professional interests include geriatrics and pain management.
