13th-Ranked Wrestlers Fall To 14th-Ranked Ithaca, 19-15

Colonels and Bombers win five matches each in thrilling dual match
In a battle of nationally-ranked wrestling teams 14th-ranked Ithaca College nipped 13th-ranked Wilkes University, 19-15, on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Bombers to 9-2 in dual matches, while the Colonels see their record fall to10-8. 
           
Ithaca jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two bouts. Willie Horwath opened the action for the Bombers with a 10-0 major decision over Peter George at 141 pounds to give his team a 4-0 lead. John Paxos followed at 149 pounds with a 5-3 decision over Derek Brownmiller to extend the lead to 7-0.
           
Wilkes would rally with consecutive wins by decision. Frank Heffernan scored a 4-0 win over Scott Edwards at 157 pounds and Justin Barowski notched a 5-3 victory over John Dale at 165 pounds to pull the Colonels within 7-6.
           
Ithaca responded with back-to-back wins to take their biggest lead of the day. Tyler Daffinee pinned D.J. Giancola in 6:11 at 174 pounds to give the Bombers a 13-6 lead. Third-ranked Nick Calandrino would follow with a 6-1 win over Colin Nagy at 184 pounds to up the lead to 16-6.
           
The Colonels would not go down quietly and pulled within a point with three straight victories.  At 197 pounds, sixth-ranked Brandon Kelly topped David Sbrisca, 3-1, to make it 16-9. Keith Altiery then posted a 4-3 win over Joe Goetz at 285 pounds to pull Wilkes within 16-12. Felipe Queiroz would make it 16-15 when he fashioned a 7-4 win over Jon Gregory at 125 pounds to set the stage for the final match of the day.
           
The final match took place at 133 pounds where
Ithaca’s Justin Seifried met the Colonels Josh Pauling. After a scoreless first period, Seifried took the down position to start the second period and was able to gain an escape for a 1-0 lead. Pauling opted for the down position to start the third period, but was unable to escape and Seifried hung on for the 1-0 win.
