Wilkes-Barre is a small, industrial city of about 43,000 people in northeastern Pennsylvania. The city is located along the Susquehanna River, about 200 kilometers west of New York City and 160 kilometers northwest of Philadelphia.
 
This historic region held the largest anthracite coal field in the United States and helped fuel the industrial revolution. Today, Wilkes-Barremakes a variety of products, including clothing, metal products, electronics, perfume and leather goods.
 
Nearby resorts and parks offer outdoor recreation, from skiing and hiking to biking and white-water rafting. You can visit the symphony, ballet, art galleries, theatrical and musical groups, ethnic and community festivals, libraries and museums.
 
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport is just 20 minutes from campus. Wilkes-Barre is within a two-and-a-half-hour drive of both New York City and Philadelphia, and just about four hours from Washington, D.C. Bus service provides 31 daily trips, including eight to New York and eight to Philadelphia. County buses serve a 25-mile radius of Wilkes-Barre, with a central hub in the city.
