The Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO) has partnered with Wilkes University to develop a series of advanced courses for school business officials. These fully online courses address specific topics crucial for succeeding in today’s school business environment and are available for graduate as well as continuing education credit. Successful completion of the 30-credit program results in a master of science in education degree with a major in School Business Leadership.

Courses can serve multiple purposes

Individuals taking courses in School Business Leadership can apply them as part of a newly created Certificate of Enhanced Qualifications (CEQ) program offered through PASBO as well as the Master of Science degree through Wilkes. A CEQ can be awarded through PASBO in specific areas of “enhanced qualifications." Participants interested in PASBO’s CEQ program should refer to their guidelines, which can be found at www.pasbo.org.

If an individual does not possess a bachelor’s degree that qualifies him or her to enroll in courses for graduate credit, he or she can enroll for continuing education credit. Individuals who already possess a master’s degree and are simply interested in the content of the courses may also choose to enroll for CPE credit. To learn more about this option, click here.

While courses are designed to provide advanced training for practicing school business personnel, they can also serve to provide a preparation track for qualified individuals who are seeking positions in the area of school business. As such, it is recommended that individuals either have background experience or participate in the PASBO Elements program in specific areas.

Admission requirements

For admission to this graduate program the applicant must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited and recognized institution with an appropriate major, preferably in a business field. Applicants that do not possess at least three years working in school business will be strongly encouraged to enroll in PASBO’s Elements workshops as prerequisites to the graduate courses. Delivery Method

Recognizing that school business personnel lead a hectic and sometimes unpredictable schedule, Wilkes University has designed the courses in an online format. The online format allows individuals to access course materials at a time that is convenient. Wilkes University uses WebCT as a course delivery system and the design allows for a high level of interactivity with instructors and classmates. Students are sent information prior to the start of class on how to access the secure course site.
