Wilkes University put a successful ending on their 2006 baseball season by sweeping a non-conference doubleheader at Cazenovia College on Sunday. The Colonels earned an 8-3 win in game one and pounded out a 20-7 victory in the nightcap.
Wilkes won 11 of their final 14 games to finish with an overall record of 19-14-1. Cazenovia sees their overall record slide to 12-15 with the two losses.
Cazenovia took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opening game when Erik White led off with a single and scored on a Scott Boyce single later in the frame.
Wilkes would plate four runs in the second to take the lead for good. Matt LoPresto and Ryan Pepper both singled, and Tony Giuffrida drew a two-out walk to load the bases. Kyle Follweiler made the Wildcats pay for the walk by drilling a grand slam to give the Colonels a 4-1 lead.
Pepper, who reached on a fielder’s choice, would score the lone Wilkes run in the third. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Eric Wetzel to up the Colonels edge to 5-1.
The Wildcats closed to within 5-3 with two runs in the fifth. White walked and Lance Farino singled. After both runners advanced a base, Derek Zehr laced a single to drive both runners home and cut the deficit to two runs.
The Colonels quickly answered with three runs in the sixth to close out the scoring. Follweiler doubled and scored on a single by Casey Kulago to extend the gap to 6-3. Chris Mayerski followed with a two-run homer to give Wilkes an 8-3 advantage.
Brad Woznisky (2-1) earned the win on the mound for Wilkes by scattering seven hits over five innings. John Milius allowed three hits and no runs in two innings of relief work. Mitch Ghezzi (1-4) took the loss for the Wildcats after giving up seven hits and five runs in three innings.
Follweiler had three hits, including a double and homer, to pace a 12-hit Wilkes attack. He also drove in four runs and scored twice. Pepper, Kulago and LoPresto chipped in with two hits each. Farino had three hits for Cazenovia, while White and Josh Winans finished with two hits apiece.
Wilkes pounded out 24 hits against four different Cazenovia pitchers to cruise to the win in game two. The Colonels had seven extra base hits, including three homeruns in the nightcap.
With the game tied at 4-4 after two innings, Wilkes took the lead for good by scoring twice in the third. Jon Cohen drove in the first run with a single, and then scored on a triple by Kulago to give the Colonels a 6-4 lead.
They would tack on a single run in the fourth when Gennaro Zangardi singled and came around to score on a Mayerski double to provide Wilkes with a 7-4 advantage. The Colonels would up the lead to 9-4 in the fifth when Kulago singled and Zangardi followed with a two-run homer.
After Cazenovia scored twice in their half of the fifth to cut the lead to 9-6, the Colonels plated seven runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Justin Huff (3-1) pitched the first four innings to garner the win for the Colonels. White (0-1), who was tagged for eight hits and six earned runs in three innings, suffered the loss for the Wildcats.
Zangardi and Kulago both went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate for Wilkes. Mayerski added four hits in four trips to the plate, including three doubles, which tied a school record. Zangardi, Mayerski and Follweiler each drove in four runs in the contest, while Kulago had three RBI’s.
Winans, Jamie Patten and Dan Brown had two hits apiece for Cazenovia. Zehr hit a homerun for the Wildcats and drove in three runs.

Mike Toomey twirled a five-hitter to lead Wilkes University to an 11-1 win over the University of Scranton in the opening game of their Freedom Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Connell Park in Scranton. In the nightcap, Mike Graziano drilled a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Scranton to a 5-4 victory.
The Colonels, who claimed a 2-1 win in the series with Royals, see their records move to 17-14-1 overall and conclude conference play with a 7-11 record. Scranton is now 15-18 overall and 7-9 in the conference.
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opening game on an RBI-single by Brad Woznisky. They would add three more runs in the second to up their lead to 4-0. Kyle Follweiler singled to drive in a run and would score on a Scranton error later in the frame to make it 3-0. A double by Justin Popovich would score Chris Mayerski, who reached on an error, with the final run of the inning.
The Colonels put the game away early by scoring five times in the third inning. Wilkes would take advantage of three Scranton errors during the frame to do their damage. Matt LoPresto doubled and Casey Kulago walked to start the inning. After both advanced a base on a sacrifice by Eric Wetzel, Gennaro Zangardi’s reached on a two-base error that allowed both LoPresto and Kulago to score and up the lead to 6-0. Follweiler and Mayerski both earned walks to load the bases. Justin Popovich also reached on an error that scored both Zangardi and Follweiler and made it an 8-0 game. Another Royals error on a ball hit by Woznisky plated Mayerski with the final run of the frame and gave Wilkes a 9-0 lead.
That was more than enough for Toomey, who improved to 5-3 with the win. He gave up just five singles and one earned run, while striking out four and walked just one. Ed McDonnell fell to 1-3 on the hill after allowing four hits and eight runs, only two which were earned, in two and two-thirds innings.
LoPresto and Kulago had two hits apiece to pace a seven-hit Wilkes attack. John Sheehan had a pair of singles for Scranton.
Wilkes took a 4-0 lead in game two after scoring twice in both the third and fourth innings. Mayerski and Paul Migliorino blasted back-to-back solo homers in the third to account for the two runs. Woznisky drove in both runs for Wilkes in the fourth with a double to give his team a 4-0 advantage.
Scranton cut the lead to 4-1 on a Sheehan RBI-single in the fourth. The Royals would further trim the lead with two runs in the fifth. Kevin Johnson, who was hit by a pitch to start the inning, scored on a Wilkes error to make it 4-2. Graziano would drive in another run later in the inning with a ground out to make it 4-3.
Charles Comprelli led off the Scranton seventh with a single, but was forced out at second on a fielder’s choice by Steve Melly. After Jason Feairheller flew out for the second out of the inning, Graziano launched his two-run shot to give the Royals a 5-4 win.
Kevin McGrath notched the pitching victory for the Royals to improve to 3-4. He allowed eight hits and four runs in going the distance. Mike Quinn was tagged for seven hits and all five runs, four which were earned, in six and one-third frames to fall to 2-5 for the Colonels.
Graziano had two hits and drove in three runs to lead Scranton at the plate. Comprelli also had two hits in the contest. Migliorino and Kyle Stover were the lone two-time hitters for Wilkes.

Wilkes University held off a late rally by the University of Scranton to notch a 6-5 Freedom Conference baseball win over the Royals on Friday afternoon at Artillery Park.
The win improves the Colonels to 16-13-1 overall and 6-10 in the conference. Scranton sees their records slide to 14-17 overall and 6-8 in conference play. The two teams will conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Connell Park in Scranton.
Scranton took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Nick Costanzo had a two-out single and came around to score on a triple by Chris Psihoules to get the Royals on the board.
Wilkes would tie the game with a single run in the fourth. Matt LoPresto led off with a single and went to second on a passed ball. After a wild pitch allowed LoPresto to move to third, Casey Kulago lofted a sacrifice fly that scored LoPresto and tied the game at 1-1.
Wilkes would plate two runs in the fifth to take a lead they would never relinquish. Kyle Stover singled and Chris Mayerski walked to put two runners on with one out. After a wild pitch allowed both runners to advance a base, Justin Popovich was hit by a pitch to load the bases. LoPresto worked a walk to force home Stover and make it 2-1. A single by Brad Woznisky would plate Mayerski to extend the lead to 3-1.
The Royals trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the top of the sixth with a run. Jason Feairheller led off with a walk and Mike Graziano followed with a single. After a sacrifice bunt by Costanzo moved both runners up, Psihoules hit a sacrifice fly that scored Feairheller to cut the lead to a run.
The Colonels responded with a three-run sixth to take a four-run lead. With one out Follweiler and Stover singled to start the rally. After a wild pitch moved both runners up, Mayerski walked to load the bases. Popovich singled to right field to score both Follweiler and Stover and give Wilkes a 5-2 lead. Mayerski, who raced to third on the single, scored on a fielder’s choice by Woznisky to make it 6-2.
Scranton would make the game interesting by tallying two runs in the seventh. Andrew Outhouse struck out swinging, but was able to reach first base when the ball bounced away from LoPresto behind the plate. A single by Robert Kalaf followed to put two runners aboard. Kalaf was lifted for pinch-runner Steve Melly before a wild pitch put Outhouse at third and Melly at second. Kevin Johnson was hit by a pitch that loaded the bases. Pinch-hitter Nick Rodio hit a fly ball that was dropped in the outfield and scored Kalaf. Melly, who also tried to score on the play, was gunned down for the first out. Feairheller followed with a single that loaded the bases again. A sacrifice fly by Graziano drove home Johnson and made it a 6-4 game. Costanzo would single to fill the bases with two outs. However, Wilkes pitcher Kevin Konschak was able to induce Psihoules into a fly out to end the inning.
The Royals would close to within 6-5 with a single run in the eighth against Follweiler, who came on in relief to start the frame. John Sheehan and Outhouse both walked to open the inning. A sacrifice by Melly put the runners on second and third. Johnson singled to drive in Sheehan, but the Colonels were able to nail Outhouse at the plate for the second out. Pinch-hitter Joe Panichelli then flew out to end the inning.
Konschak improved to 6-0 on the mound by scattering seven hits and four runs over seven innings. Only three of the runs were earned against Konschak, who also fanned four. Follweiler notched his second save of the season with two innings of one-hit relief. J.P. Touhey (3-5) suffered the loss for Scranton after surrendering three runs and four hits in four and one-third innings.
Kyle Stover had three of the nine hits that Wilkes had in the contest. Follweiler added a single and double, while Kulago also doubled.
Scranton, which had eight hits in the game, was led by Costanzo’s two hits. Psihoules chipped in with a triple and a pair of runs batted in.

Chris Mayerski had four hits, including a pair of homeruns, and drove in six to lead Wilkes University to a 15-3 win over Penn State Berks in the opening game of their non-conference baseball doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. In the nightcap, three Wilkes hurlers combined on a three-hit shutout to lift the Colonels to an 8-0 win.
The sweep improves the Colonels to 15-13-1 heading into Friday’s Freedom Conference home game against the University of Scranton at 3:30 p.m. Penn State Berks sees their record slip to 5-23 overall.
Wilkes scored twice in the second and three times in the third to take a 5-0 lead in game one. Eric Wetzel, who singled, and Casey Kulago, who walked, would both score following a passed ball to account for the two Colonels runs in the second. Kyle Stover had an RBI-single in the third and scored on a Mayerski’s first homerun of the game, a two-run shot that made it 5-0.
After Penn State Berks cut the lead to 5-2 with a pair of runs in their half of the third, Wilkes took command by scoring three more times in the fourth. Follweiler doubled and Stover walked to start the frame. Mayerski scored Follweiler with a single and Matt LoPresto delivered Stover when his ground ball was misplayed for an error. LoPresto would make it 8-2 when he trotted home on a sacrifice fly by Jon Cohen.
The Colonels scored five times in fifth to up their lead to 13-2. A single and stolen base by Kulago and a walk by Josh Campbell put runners on the corners with one out. Follweiler singled to score Kulago and Stover reached on an error that plated Campbell to make it 10-2. Mayerski then stepped to the plate and launched a three-run shot that made it 13-2.
Wilkes would add a pair of tallies in the sixth. Ryan Pepper was hit by a pitch and Tony Giuffrida had a single to set the stage for a two-run double by Follweiler that provided the Colonels with a 15-2 lead. The Lions would score once in the sixth to close out the scoring.
Brad Woznisky picked up the pitching win for Wilkes. He scattered five hits and struck out six over six innings of work. Scott Hoch gave up 11 hits and nine earned runs in five innings to suffer the loss.
Mayerski had four hits, including the two homeruns, and drove in six runs to lead the Colonels at the plate. Follweiler had a pair of doubles and a single and drove in three, while Stover finished with two singles. Mark Sternat had two hits to lead Penn State Berks.
In game two, Follweiler, Justin Popovich and Paul Migliorino combined to limit the Lions to just three singles. Follweiler went the first two innings and did not give up a hit to garner the victory. Popovich pitched three frames and allowed only two singles, while Migliorino tossed the final two innings and surrendered only a single.
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead in the first when Stover doubled and scored on a single by LoPresto. They would add to runs in the second when Eric Wetzel walked and Follweiler blasted a two-run homer to make it 3-0.
That was all the scoring until the seventh when the Colonels scored five times. Follweiler walked and went to third on a single by Stover. Mayerski would drive in a pair with a double to push the lead to 5-0. Migliorino had an RBI-double that scored Mayerski and made it 6-0. He would cross the plate with the seventh Wilkes run when Kulago’s ground ball was mishandled. Kulago would eventually score on a ground out by Wetzel to give the Colonels an 8-0 lead.
Stover was the lone two-time hitter for Wilkes in the nightcap with a single and double. Ron Schaffer, Travis Capacete and Justin Holsinger had the hits for Penn State Berks.

Justin Huff carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning before settling for a one-hitter and Chris Mayerski and Casey Kulago each ripped grand slam homeruns in an 11-run seventh inning as Wilkes University cruised to a 21-1 baseball win over Baptist Bible College on Monday afternoon at Artillery Park.
The Colonels evened their record at 13-13-1 with the victory. The Defenders see their overall mark slip to 7-16.
Huff overcame a bit of wildness to take a shutout and no-hitter into the final frame. However, Geoff Saturley ended both bids with a leadoff solo homerun to start the ninth. Huff ended the day with four strikeouts and six walks to improve his record to 2-1.
Wilkes would strike for five runs in the first inning to assume command. Paul Migliorino and Matt LoPresto slapped RBI-singles to give the Colonels a 2-0 lead. Brad Woznisky would deliver a run with a double and Chris Yonki’s ground out made it a 4-0 game. Geoff Miller would plate the final run with a triple to give Wilkes a 5-0 lead.
LoPresto made it 6-0 Colonels with a long solo homerun in the third inning. Woznisky and Miller would lace run-scoring singles as part of a three-run fifth that pushed the advantage to 9-0. LoPresto tripled in the sixth and scored on a single by Woznisky to make it 10-0 after six innings.
Wilkes would send 13 hitters to the plate during the seventh inning outburst. They had only three hits in the inning, but took advantage of three Baptist Bible errors and three walks. Andy Garofoli walked and Eric Wetzel reached on an error to start the frame. After Kyle Follweiler drove in a run with a single, Kulago walked to load the bases. Mayerski then stepped to the dish and delivered his grand slam that upped the lead to 15-0.
Josh Campbell reached on a two-out fielder’s choice to keep the inning alive. Kyle Stover then reached on an error and Garofoli drew a walk to re-load the bases. Wetzel would reach on another error that scored Campbell and made it 16-0. After a walk to Jon Cohen forced in a run, Kulago launched his shot to left-center field to give the Colonels a 21-0 lead before Saturley’s home run got the Defenders on the board.
LoPresto had a single, triple and home run for Wilkes, while Woznisky added three hits, including a double, and drove in three. Mayerski and Kulago had two hits apiece and drove in four each, while Miller also finished the day with two hits, including a triple.

Alvernia College pounded out 16 hits en route to a 10-2 non-conference baseball win over visiting Wilkes University on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Crusaders to 23-10 overall, while the Colonels see their record slip to 12-13-1.
Alvernia jumped on top 2-0 after two innings thanks to a run-scoring single in the first by Chris Raniere and a sacrifice fly that drove in a run in the second by Edwin Tavarez.
The Colonels would get both of their runs in the third frame to knot the game at 2-2. Kyle Follweiler led off the inning with a solo homerun to cut the deficit to 2-1. One out later Chris Mayerski duplicated the fete with a solo shot that tied the contest.
But, Alvernia answered right back with two runs of their own in the third to take the lead for good. Eric Bonds led off with a single and score on a triple by Zach Lutz. Lutz would then score on a single by Jason Zeigler to extend the Crusaders lead to 4-2.
Alvernia added another run in the fifth on a Lutz double to up their advantage to 5-2. Tavarez would loft a sacrifice fly to score one of two runs in the sixth inning that made it a 7-2 game. The other run for the Crusaders in the sixth came on a single by Ryan Mark. Lutz would add two more runs batted in during a three-run eighth inning with a single that capped the scoring.
Lutz went six innings on the mound and scattered seven hits to pick up the victory for Alvernia. Mike Toomey, who allowed 10 hits and five earned runs in seven innings, suffered the loss for Wilkes.
Lutz was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs batted in and three runs scored to lead the Crusaders offensively. Mark, Bonds, Zeigler, Raniere and Steve Burdan contributed two hits apiece.
Nine different Wilkes players had one hit, including the homeruns by Follweiler and Mayerski and a double by Paul Migliorino.

Wilkes University exploded for six runs in the sixth inning to overcome a 3-1 deficit and post a 12-5 non-conference baseball win over SUNY Old Westbury on Thursday afternoon at Artillery Park. The win improves the Colonels 12-12-1 overall, while the Panthers see their record fall to 8-15 overall.
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Brad Woznisky RBI-single. However, the Panthers scored three runs in the fourth to take a two-run lead. William Rada singled and Peter Petrides drew a walk to set the stage for Darly Alcantara’s three-run homer that gave Old Westbury the lead.
The Colonels would take advantage of a pair of costly Old Westbury errors in their big sixth inning. Paul Migliorino reached on an error to begin the inning and Justin Popovich doubled to put runners on second and third. Gennaro Zangardi’s ground ball was then misplayed allowing Migliorino to score and make it 3-2. After a single by Eric Wetzel loaded the bases, Casey Kulago cracked a triple that cleared the bases and gave Wilkes a 5-3 lead. Kyle Stover would plate Kulago with a sacrifice fly that extended the Colonels lead to 6-3. With two outs Chris Mayerski singled and Woznisky drew a walk to keep the inning alive. Migliorino followed with a single to score Mayerski and make it a 7-3 game.
Old Westbury cut the deficit to 7-5 with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Ramon Geronimo had a double that scored a run and Felipe Martinez added a run-scoring single for the Panthers.
Wilkes answered right back with four runs in their half of the inning. With one out Wetzel walked and Kulago singled to start the rally. The Panthers committed another error trying to nail Wetzel at third. The throw was off the mark allowing Wetzel to cross the plate and Kulago to move to second. Kyle Follweiler walked before Stover ripped a two-run double to push the Colonels edge to 10-5. Woznisky was hit by a pitch and Migliorino worked a base on balls to load the bases with two outs. Ryan Pepper would score Stover with a pinch-hit single to give Wilkes an 11-5 advantage.
The Colonels would add one more run in the eighth when Follweiler connected for an inside-the-park homerun that made it 12-5.
Kevin Konschak went seven innings on the mound for Wilkes to improve to 5-0 this season. He allowed eight hits and struck out four. George Pagan, the third of seven Old Westbury pitchers, suffered the loss to fall to 0-2.
Follweiler had three hits, including a double and homerun, to lead a 14-hit Wilkes attack. Kulago, who tripled, and Stover, who doubled, had two hits and drove in three runs apiece. Popovich contributed a single and double for the Colonels.
Alcantara had a single and homerun to lead the Panthers, who finished with eight hits in the contest. Geronimo had two doubles and Martinez chipped in with a pair of singles for Old Westbury.

Chris Mayerski had four hits and drove in a pair of runs and John Milius and Kyle Follweiler teamed up to pitch four and one-third innings of solid relief to lead Wilkes University to an 11-8 non-conference baseball win over Moravian College on Monday afternoon. The Colonels improved to 11-12-1 overall with the victory, while the Greyhounds see their overall mark fall to 5-23.
Wilkes took a 3-0 lead in the third on an RBI-single by Eric Wetzel and a two-run double by Mayerski. However, Moravian would score four times in their half of the third to claim a 4-3 advantage. Thomas Czarnecki singled to score a run and John Bisco had a double that plated another run for the Greyhounds and cut the lead to 3-2. A double by Pete Moore would knot the count at 3-3 and Richie Cline put Moravian ahead with a run-scoring single that made it 4-3.
The Colonels answered with three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to forge in front 7-4. Brad Woznisky led off the fourth with a solo homer to tie the game at 4-4. With Geoff Miller, who walked, on first and Casey Kulago, who doubled, on second Follweiler cracked a triple to score both runners and give Wilkes a 6-4 advantage. Mayerski, who tripled, would score the Wilkes run in the fifth when he raced home following a Moravian error to up the Colonels lead to 7-4.
Moravian tied the game at 7-7 by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Bisco reached on an error and both Moore and Cline singled to load the bases with no outs. A sacrifice fly by Joseph Durso plated Bisco to cut the lead to 7-5. With two outs Christopher Rue drew a walk to re-load the bases. Czarnecki would score both Moore and Cline with a double that pulled the Greyhounds even at 7-7.
Wilkes took the lead for good in the sixth inning. Wetzel tripled to start the inning and scored on a ground out by Kyle Stover to make it 8-7. After Mayerski singled and Justin Popovich drew a walk, Woznisky singled down the left field line to plate Mayerski and make it 9-7.
The Colonels added single runs in both the eighth and ninth innings. Follweiler singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Stover to account for the Wilkes run in the eighth. Wetzel, who reached on an error, would score the Colonels run in the ninth on another Greyhound error to extend the lead to 11-7.
Moravian would score once in the ninth to close out the scoring. Bisco walked and moved to third on a one-out double by Cline. A ground out by Durso allowed Bisco to score and cut the final deficit to 11-8.
John Milius (2-1) picked up the pitching victory in relief of Wilkes starter Justin Huff. Milius pitched two and two-thirds innings of perfect baseball. Follweiler allowed one hit and one run in two innings of work to earn a save. Brian Davis (0-1), who was tagged for three runs and four hits in three innings on the mound, suffered the loss for Moravian.
Mayerski had a double and triple among his four hits, as the Colonels pounded out 14 hits in the win. Follweiler finished with three hits, including a triple, and drove in two. Woznisky, who had two runs batted in and a homerun, and Wetzel, who tripled, had two hits apiece.
Cline and Czarnecki had three hits each to lead the Moravian offensive attack. Both players had a double apiece. Moore chipped in with a single and double.

Senior left-hander Kevin Konschak tossed a two-hit complete game shutout to lead Wilkes University to an 8-0 win over Delaware Valley College in the opening game of their Freedom Conference baseball doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Artillery Park. The Aggies bounced back to post a 6-3 win in the nightcap.
Wilkes, which also nabbed an 8-0 win over Delaware Valley in the first game of the series on Thursday, see their records move to 10-12-1 overall and 5-10 in the conference. The Aggies are now 10-13 overall and 2-8 in conference action.
A day after Mike Toomey held Delaware Valley to just five hits in an 8-0 Wilkes win, Konschak was even more spectacular. He improved to 4-0 on the season, striking out three and walking a pair. Dan Metague pitched just one inning for the Aggies to fall to 2-3.
The Aggies would mount a threat in the first inning when George Higginson led off with an infield single and advanced to third on a one-out error by the Colonels that allowed John Persicketti to reach safely. However, Konschak induced Zach Jakubowski to hit into a double-play to end the threat.
Wilkes would score all the runs they would need in the first when they tallied five times. Kyle Follweiler walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Kyle Stover then laid down a sacrifice bunt which was thrown away allowing Follweiler to score and Stover to advance to second. A triple by Justin Popovich scored Stover to up the lead to 2-0. A walk to Brad Woznisky preceded a single by Matt LoPresto that plated Popovich to make it 3-0. After both Woznisky and LoPresto advanced a base on a passed ball, Geoff Miller lofted a sacrifice fly to score Woznisky and extend the Colonels advantage to 4-0. Casey Kulago singled to drive in LoPresto with the final run of the inning and make it 5-0.
The Colonels tacked on a run in the second. Follweiler walked and moved to second on a single by Stover. A double steal would place the runners on second and third before a sacrifice fly by Popovich scored Follweiler to push the lead to 6-0.
The Aggies would put two runners on for the final time against Konschak, that coming in the third inning when Steve Kinney singled and Higginson worked a walk with one out. Once again Konschak rose to the challenge, getting Charles DiNolfi to fly out and Persicketti to ground out to end the frame.
Wilkes added single runs in both the third and fourth innings to close out the scoring. LoPresto singled and went to second on a Delaware Valley error. After advancing to third on a fielder’s choice, LoPresto scored on a sacrifice fly by Eric Wetzel to make it 7-0. In the fourth it was a leadoff triple by Stover and a sacrifice fly by Popovich that plated the eighth and final run.
The Colonels had seven hits in the opener, including two apiece for Stover and LoPresto. Popovich added a triple and drove in three runs.
In game two Delaware Valley scored twice in the first inning to take a lead they would never relinquish. Higginson walked and scored on a single by Weingart to give the Aggies a 1-0 advantage. Weingart, who moved to second on a play at the plate trying to nail Higginson, would move to third on a ground out before scoring on a single by Kyle Bobb to push the lead to 2-0.
Wilkes cut the lead in half with a run in the second. Woznisky singled and with one out stole second. After moving to third on a wild pitch, he would trot home on a Kulago single that made it 2-1.
The Aggies answered right back with a run in the third. Weingart doubled with one out and went to third on an errant throw from the outfield. Kris Hazlett scored Weingart with a double to up the lead to 3-1.
Once again Wilkes would claw to within a run by scoring once in their half of the third. Chris Mayerski reached on an error with one out before going to second on a wild pitch. He scored on a double by Woznisky that closed the Colonels deficit to 3-2.
Delaware Valley took advantage of a key Wilkes error in the fifth to score three times and gain some breathing room. With two outs, Persicketti and Hazlett both singled. Bobb then hit a ground ball that was fielded and throw away, allowing Persicketti to score. Kinney extended the inning with a single that scored Hazlett and made it 5-2. A double by DiNolfi plated Bobb and gave the Aggies a 6-2 lead.
Wilkes got their final run in the fifth inning when Follweiler led off with a triple and came around to score on a ground out by Stover to cut the final margin to 6-3.
Chris White allowed only four hits in pitching a complete game and improving to 2-3. White struck out five and walked four. Mike Quinn fell to 2-4 on the mound after giving up six runs, three which were earned, and nine hits in five innings.
Weingart, Hazlett and Kinney had a single and double each to lead Delaware Valley offensively. Woznisky had two hits for Wilkes, including a double.

Senior Mike Toomey tossed a five-hit shutout to lead Wilkes University to an 8-0 Freedom Conference baseball victory over Delaware Valley College on Thursday afternoon.
The Colonels, who will host Delaware Valley for a pair of games on Friday at 12:00 p.m. at Artillery Park, improved to 9-11-1 and 4-9 in conference play. The Aggies saw their records fall to 9-12 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
Toomey gave up only five singles and did not allow more than one hit in any inning in improving to 2-4 on the mound. Dave Keeler took the loss for Delaware Valley to move to 1-1. He was tagged for eight hits and six runs, only three of which were earned, in seven innings of work.
Wilkes took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Kyle Follweiler led off with a walk and Kyle Stover followed with a single. After both runners advanced a base on an error, Chris Mayerski hit a sacrifice fly that scored Follweiler to make it 1-0. Stover would score the second run on a Delaware Valley error on a ball hit by Brad Woznisky.
The Colonels added to their lead by scoring four times in the third frame. A double by Follweiler and a bunt single by Stover placed runners at the corners. Follweiler scored on a Mayerski single to up the lead to 3-0. Justin Popovich would hit in to a fielder’s choice that allowed Stover to score to make it 4-0. An error on the play advanced Mayerski to second. Woznisky would double to score Mayerski and extend the advantage to 5-0. Popovich scored the final run of the inning on a ground out by Geoff Miller that made it 6-0.
Wilkes would tack on single runs in both the eighth and ninth innings to close out the scoring. Matt LoPresto doubled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Casey Kulago in the eighth. Mayerski would single in the ninth and came around to score on a double by Popovich.
Mayerski had three hits, including a double, and drove in pair to lead an 11-hit Wilkes attack. He also scored twice. Stover also had three hits and scored twice. The Colonels also got two hits, including a double, from LoPresto.
Zach Jakubowski was the lone two-time hitter in the game for Delaware Valley.

Susquehanna University rallied from a 9-1 deficit to forge a 9-9 tie with Wilkes University in 11 innings in a non-conference baseball game called due to darkness at Artillery Park on Tuesday. Wilkes sees their record move to 8-11-1 overall, while the Crusaders are now 7-15-1 overall.
Wilkes took a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Paul Migliorino singled and moved to second on a sacrifice by Justin Popovich. Kyle Stover would reach on a fielder’s choice that moved Migliorino to third with two outs. After Josh Campbell drew a walk to load the bases, Eric Wetzel singled to score Migliorino and make it 1-0. Kyle Follweiler would drive in both Stover and Campbell with a single to extend the lead to 3-0. An error on the play allowed Wetzel to also cross home plate and give the Colonels a 4-0 lead.
A solo homerun by Susquehanna’s Chris Mothershed in the fourth cut the Wilkes lead to 4-1.
However, the Colonels responded by scoring five times in their half of the fourth. Chris Mayerski and Brad Woznisky drew one out walks to start the rally. Both players then stole a base, with Mayerski scoring on an errant throw to make it 5-1. A Migliorino single scored Woznisky and then Justin Popovich blasted a two-run homer to give the Colonels an 8-1 lead. Casey Kulago would walk and Stover would single to keep the inning alive. Campbell then drove home Kulago with a single to help Wilkes build a 9-1 advantage.
Susquehanna answered quickly by scoring six times in the sixth inning to close the gap to 9-7. Jason Gaccione tripled and scored on a triple by Matt Reichard. A sacrifice fly by Brian Ahearn scored Reichard to cut the lead to 9-3. A double by Kyle Wertman and a single by Kurt Yannelli gave the Crusaders runners on first and third. After Mothershed flew out for the second out of the inning, Adam Dick singled to plate Wertman and make it a 9-4 game. Another single by Matt Ruane allowed Yannelli to score to pull the Crusaders within 9-5. A Wilkes error on a ball hit by Aaron Ettinger scored both Dick and Ruane to cut the Colonels lead to 9-7.
The Crusaders tied the game by scoring two runs in the seventh frame. Reichard was hit by a pitch and Ahearn doubled to place runners on second and third. Yannelli scored Reichard with a one-out single, while Ahearn scored the final run on a Wilkes error that made it 9-9.
Stover had three of the 13 hits that Wilkes mustered in the contest. Popovich added a pair of hits, including the homerun. Wetzel, Follweiler and Migliorino contributed two singles apiece.
Susquehanna had 16 hits in the game, including four hits off the bats of both Ruane and Ahearn. Two of Ahearn’s hits were doubles. Gaccione and Yannelli chipped in with two hits apiece.

DeSales University pounded out 20 hits off four different Wilkes University pitchers on their way to a 14-2 Freedom Conference baseball win over the Colonels on Monday afternoon at Artillery Park.
The Bulldogs improve to 12-9 overall and 6-1 in Freedom Conference play after winning the rubber game in their three-game set with the Colonels. Wilkes sees their records fall to 8-11 overall and 3-9 in the conference. The two teams had split the first two games of their series on Sunday in Center Valley.
DeSales used four extra base hits to score three times and take a 3-0 advantage in the second inning. Luke Pisker began the scoring with a one-out solo homerun. With two outs the Bulldogs put together three straight doubles by John Pisker, Nick Repas and Greg Treat to increase their lead to three runs.
Wilkes would answer with a single run in their half of the second on a run-scoring single by Casey Kulago. However, DeSales plated a pair of runs in the third thanks to an rbi-single by Pat Campbell and a Wilkes error to take a 5-1 lead. Once again the Colonels cut into the deficit with a single run in the third on a sacrifice fly by Gennaro Zangardi that made it 5-2. But, that is as close as Wilkes would get.
DeSales would score in each of the next five innings to pull away. A single by Scott Matejicka pushed home a run in the fourth and Matt Connors drove in a run with a suicide squeeze bunt in the fifth to provide the Bulldogs with a 7-2 lead.
In the sixth, DeSales scored three times with two outs to extend their advantage to 10-2. John Pisker and Repas both had run-scoring singles during the frame, while the third Bulldogs run scored on an errant throw by Wilkes.
DeSales tacked on two more runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to cap the scoring. Matejicka drove in both runs in the seventh with a single. Andrew Heard plated a run with a double in the eighth, while the final DeSales run scored on a ground out by Michael Ellard.
JT Brotosky improved his pitching record to 3-2 by scattering six hits and two runs over seven innings. Mike Quinn suffered the loss for Wilkes to fall to 1-3 on the hill. Quinn surrendered 10 runs, eight of which were earned, and 13 hits in six innings.
Heard had four hits, including a pair of doubles, and Treat had four hits with one double to lead DeSales offensively. The Bulldogs also received three hits from Campbell and two hits apiece from Matejicka, John Pisker and Repas.
Kulago led Wilkes with a pair of singles.

Kevin Konschak pitched five and two-thirds solid innings and Mike Quinn came on to earn a save as Wilkes University handed defending Freedom Conference champion DeSales University their first conference loss of the season, 5-4 in the nightcap of their baseball twinbill on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs notched a 13-5 win in the opener.
The split moves Wilkes to 8-10 overall and 3-8 in the conference. DeSales sees their records move to 11-9 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Monday with a single game at Artillery Park at 4:00 p.m.
In game two Wilkes took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Geoff Miller led off with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Casey Kulago, and went to third on a single by Eric Wetzel. After Wetzel stole second base, Kyle Follweiler’s ground out allowed Miller to score and give the Colonels a 1-0 advantage. Later in the frame Matt LoPresto would single to score Wetzel and extend the lead to 2-0.
The two teams would exchange single runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to push the score to 4-2. Wilkes then tallied their final run in the seventh. LoPresto and Brad Woznisky both singled to set the stage for Justin Popovich’s run-scoring single that made it 5-2.
However, DeSales would try and mount a rally in the seventh against Quinn. With one out John Pisker reached on an error and Nick Repas singled to put runners at first and second. Greg Treat would score Pisker with a single that cut the lead to 5-3. A ground out by Anthony Calafato allowed both Repas and Treat to move to third and second with two outs. Another Wilkes error on a ball hit by Andrew Heard plated Repas to make it 5-4. But, Quinn was able to induce Mike Bianca into an infield pop out to end the game.
Konschak allowed only eight hits and two runs, one of which was earned, to improve to 3-0 on the hill. Quinn gave up just two hits and two earned runs for his second save. Luke Pisker took the loss after surrendering six hits and four runs, only two of those were earned, in five and one-third innings.
Wetzel and LoPresto had two singles apiece to lead Wilkes offensively. The Bulldogs got two hits apiece from Heard, Repas and Scott Matejicka.
In the opener Wilkes pushed across four runs in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead. Singles by Chris Mayerski, LoPresto and Woznisky loaded the bases with no outs. A ground out by Popovich scored Mayerski to tie the game at 2-2. Gennaro Zangardi followed with a double that allowed both LoPresto and Woznisky to cross the plate and give the Colonels a 4-2 advantage. Zangardi would score the final run of the inning on a single by Kyle Stover that made it 5-2.
DeSales scored three times in their half of the third to knot the count at 5-5. A sacrifice fly by John Pisker scored Mike Bianca, who had doubled, with the first run. Later in the inning Treat cracked a bases-loaded single that allowed to runs to score and tied the game.
The Bulldogs took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth. Heard singled, stole second and third, and scored on a Wilkes error on a ball hit by Mike Pennington to put the home team on top 6-5. Another Wilkes error later in the inning allowed Pennington to score from third and make it 7-5. DeSales would tack on a single run in the sixth and five in the seventh to pull away.
Jon Kensecki picked up the victory on the mound in relief of DeSales starter Matt Reppert. Kensecki pitched the final three and two-thirds innings and gave up just two hits, while fanning nine. Mike Toomey took the loss after giving up 12 hits and nine runs, seven of which were earned, in five innings.
Treat had three hits, including a triple, and drove in four runs to lead DeSales at the plate. Heard, who doubled, and Matejicka contributed three hits apiece.
Woznisky and Stover had three singles each to lead an 11-hit Wilkes attack. LoPresto chipped in with a single and double.

Wilkes University’s Gennaro Zangardi ripped a run-scoring single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap a three-run final frame for the Colonels and lift them to a 9-8 non-conference baseball win over College Misericordia on Thursday afternoon at Artillery Park. The win improves the Colonels to 7-9 overall, while the Cougars slide to 1-16 overall.
Wilkes trailed 8-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth before mounting their comeback. Jon Cohen singled with one out and advanced to third on a double by Matt LoPresto. Pinch-hitter Chris Yonki followed with a triple to right-center field that allowed both Cohen and LoPresto to score and tie the game at 8-8. Yonki attempted to stretch the hit into an inside-the-park homerun, however he was gunned down at the plate to keep the game even. Brad Woznisky drew a two-out walk and stole second base to move into scoring position. Zangardi singled to left field and Woznisky was able to beat the throw home to give Wilkes the victory.
Misericordia scored single runs in the first two innings to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Rob Lanfrank opened the first with a single and went to second on a sacrifice by Cody Hack. After Brian Crum singled to put runners on first and third, Brian Valonis’ ground out scored Lanfrank to make it 1-0. Ryan Savka would up the lead to 2-0 in the second when he led off the inning with a solo homerun.
The Cougars plated a pair of runs in the fourth to extend their lead. Jerry Reed doubled with one out and scored on a single by Brian Matthews to make it 3-0. Matthews, who went to second on a throw to the plate trying to nail Reed, would score on a Lanfrank single to extend the lead to 4-0.
Wilkes closed the gap to 4-3 with three runs in their half of the fourth. Woznisky was hit by a pitch and both Zangardi and Casey Kulago walked to load the bases with no outs. Kyle Stover lofted a sacrifice fly that allowed Woznisky to cross the plate with the first Colonels run. After Kulago was picked off for the second out, Eric Wetzel blasted a two-run homer to cut the deficit to a run.
The Colonels knotted the game at 4-4 in the fifth when LoPresto, who had walked, scored on a double by Zangardi. Wilkes then scored twice in the sixth to take their first lead. After Kulago reached on an error and Stover walked, Kyle Follweiler hit an RBI-single to score Kulago and give the Colonels a 5-4 lead. Stover would also score on the play when the Cougars committed an error to make it 6-4.
Misericordia would put together a four-run seventh inning to take an 8-6 advantage. Lanfrank doubled, Hack reached on an error and Crum loaded the bases when he reached safely on a fielder’s choice. After Valonis popped out in the infield for the first out, Josh Kendrick cracked a grand slam to provide the visitor’s with the lead and set the stage for the Colonels final rally.
Mike Quinn evened his pitching record at 2-2 by tossing a scoreless ninth inning. Valonis suffered the loss after going one and two-thirds innings and surrendering three runs and four hits.
Zangardi was the lone two-time hitter for Wilkes. Lanfrank had four hits for the Cougars, while Reed and Matthews had two hits apiece.

Chris Mayerski drilled a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and freshman Justin Huff scattered five hits over six innings of work to lift Wilkes University to a 6-3 victory over Freedom Conference rival King’s College in the second game of their baseball twinbill on Sunday afternoon at Artillery Park. In game one King’s rallied from a 7-2 deficit to score a 10-7 win in eight innings.
With the split Wilkes sees their records move to 6-9 overall and 2-7 in conference play. King’s is now 12-9 overall and 6-3 in the conference.
Kyle Stover drew a one-out walk off of King’s reliever Josh Faust in the sixth inning of the nightcap. After Stover moved to second on a ground out by Kyle Follweiler, Eric Wetzel was issued a walk to put runners on first and second. Mayerski followed with his three-run blast to deep left field to break the tie and give the Colonels a 6-3 lead.
Wilkes scored a pair of two-out runs in the opening inning to grab a 2-0 lead. Mayerski walked and went to third on a double by Matt LoPresto. Brad Woznisky followed with another double that scored both runners to put the Colonels on top.
King’s would score a single run in the second to cut the lead to 2-1. Mike Venarchick singled and advanced to second on a walk by Josh Faust. J.R. Graver would plate Venarchick with a single.
The Monarchs took the lead by using the long ball in the fourth. With one out, Mike Venarchick cracked a solo homer to tie the game at 2-2. Nick Sorino followed with another solo shot to give King’s a 3-2 advantage.
Wilkes fought back in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3 and set the stage for Mayerski’s heroics. Follweiler led off with a double off of relief pitcher John McNichol. After a walk to Wetzel, Mayerski singled to score Follweiler with the tying run.
Huff allowed only five hits and three runs in six innings of work to pick up his first collegiate victory. Mike Quinn tossed a spotless seventh to garner the save. Faust was tagged with the loss for King’s after giving up three runs and two hits in one inning.
Mayerski had two of the Colonels eight hits and drove in four runs. LoPresto added a pair of doubles for Wilkes. Mike Venarchick and Graver had two hits each for King’s.
In the opener King’s took a 1-0 lead when Jeremy Faust tripled and scored on a Sorino single in the second. However, Wilkes bounced right back in their half of the frame when Woznisky, who had singled, scored on a base hit by Casey Kulago to tie the game at 1-1.
The Monarchs would assume a 2-1 lead in the third. Caleb Calarco and Matt Livoy singled with one out to put runners on first and second. Rob Medlock would drive home Calarco with a single to account for the King’s run.
Wilkes would score four times in their half of the third to take the lead. A single by Wetzel, a base on balls by Follweiler, and a single by Mayerski loaded the bases with no outs. LoPresto would loft a sacrifice fly to score Wetzel and knot the count at 2-2. After Woznisky flew out for the second out of the inning, Justin Popovich singled to score Follweiler and give the Colonels a 3-2 lead. Gennaro was hit by a pitch to re-load the bases before a single by Kulago allowed Mayerski to score and up the lead to 4-2. Stover added an RBI-single that plated Popovich and made it 5-2.
Follweiler led off the fifth inning for Wilkes with an inside the park homerun to push the lead to 6-2. Later in the inning Zangardi drilled a single to score LoPresto, who had walked, and give the Colonels a 7-2 advantage.
King’s began to mount their comeback in the fifth inning. Jon Venarchick singled and Calarco reached on a fielder’s choice to put runners on first and second with no outs. Matt Livoy singled and the ball got by the Wilkes outfielder allowing both Venarchick and Calarco to score and Livoy to move to second. Livoy went to third on a ground out by Medlock and scored on a double by Jeremy Faust to cut the lead to 7-5. Mike Venarchick would deliver a run-scoring single to score Faust and make it 7-6 after five innings.
The Monarchs scored a single run in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Mike Venarchick led off with a double and advanced to third on a Sorino ground out. After Josh Faust drew a walk to put runners on the corners, Graver was induced into a ground out to third, which allowed only Faust to move up a base. After Faust was replaced at second by pinch-runner Phil Moskowitz, Jon Venarchick singled to right field. Mike Venarchick scored, but Moskowitz was gunned down at the plate by Zangardi to keep the game tied at 7-7.
Wilkes had an opportunity to put the game away in the bottom of the seventh. Stover greeted McNichol, who came on to pitch the seventh, with a double down the left field line. However, McNichol was able to strike out both Wetzel and Follweiler for the first two outs of the inning. After Mayerski was intentionally walked, LoPresto grounded out back to the mound to end the threat.
King’s scored three times in the eighth inning to secure the win. With one out, Livoy tripled off of reliever John Milius. Medlock then grounded out to third base, leaving Livoy at third with two outs. Jeremy Faust would score Livoy with a single to give the Monarchs an 8-7 lead. Mike Venarchick followed with a triple to score Faust and extend the lead to 9-7. Venarchick would score the final run on a single by Sorino to make it 10-7.
McNichol was the winning pitcher for King’s in relief of Medlock, who pitched the first six innings. Mark Yankowski allowed only one hit in the eighth inning to pick up the save. Milius, who surrendered three runs and four hits in one inning of work, suffered the loss for Wilkes.
Jon Venarchick led a 19-hit King’s attack with four hits, including a double and triple. Mike Venarchick, Livoy and Jeremy Faust contributed three hits apiece.
Woznisky had three of the Colonels 14 hits in the opener. Follweiler, Zangardi, Kulago and Stover each chipped in with two hits.

FDU-Florham scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to notch a 3-1 win over Wilkes University in game one of their Freedom Conference twinbill on Saturday afternoon. In the nightcap the Devils scored six times in their first at-bat on their way to a 9-1 victory.
The two wins improves FDU-Florham to 9-9 overall and 6-3 in the Freedom Conference. Wilkes sees their records fall to 5-8 overall and 1-6 in the conference heading into Sunday’s home twinbill with King’s College at 1:00 p.m.
Wilkes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game one. With one out Casey Kulago cracked a solo homerun to left field to give his team the lead.
The Devils would rally to take the lead in the sixth. Lucas Cittone started the inning with a triple and Joey Santillo had an infield single to put runners on first and third. Cittone scored on a double by Jim DaSilva to tie the game at 1-1. A double by Joe Franzese would score both Santillo and DaSilva and provide FDU-Florham with a 3-1 lead.
Ryan Flannery earned the pitching win for the Devils after going seven innings and allowing one run and five hits, while striking out 10. Mike Toomey, who gave up seven hits and three runs in six innings of work, suffered the loss for Wilkes.
Cittone was the lone two-time hitter for FDU-Florham with a single and triple. Kyle Follweiler had a pair of singles to lead the Wilkes offensive attack.
In game two, FDU-Florham scored six runs in the first inning, five of which were unearned, to take a lead they would never relinquish.
Cittone reached on an error and was erased on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Matt Healy. DaSilva singled and Franzese walked to load the bases. A single by Dan Bellino scored Healy to make it 1-0. Santillo would force in a run with a walk to make it 2-0. After Tom Cifrodella struck out, Bill Smith drew a base on balls to plate another run and extend the lead to 3-0. A single by Cal Springmeyer and a Wilkes error allowed all three runners to score and push the lead to 6-0.
FDU-Florham would tack on a single run in the third on an RBI-single by Springmeyer that made it 7-0.
The Colonels finally got on the board in the fifth inning. Kyle Stover walked and moved to second on a single by Eric Wetzel. A wild pitch allowed both runners to move up a base. Follweiler lofted a sacrifice fly that scored Stover and cut the lead to 7-1. But, that is as close as Wilkes would get.
Glenn Regan pitched six innings and allowed six hits and one run to pick up the mound victory for FDU-Florham. Brad Woznisky allowed 11 hits and three earned runs in six innings on the hill for Wilkes.
DaSilva had three hits, including a double and triple, for the Devils. Bellino chipped in with two hits. Kulago was the only Wilkes player with multiple hits, finishing with a pair of singles.

FDU-Florham took advantage of four Wilkes University errors to plate seven unearned runs on their way to a 10-5 Freedom Conference baseball win on Friday afternoon at Artillery Park.
The Devils improve to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in conference play, while the Colonels see their records fall to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference. The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Saturday afternoon at FDU-Florham when they play a twinbill at 12:00 p.m.
FDU-Florham scored a pair of unearned runs with two outs in the first inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Jim DaSilva had a two-out single to begin the rally. Joe Franzese followed with a fly ball that was dropped in the outfield for a two-base error that allowed DaSilva to score. A single by Dan Bellino would scored Franzese and make it 2-0.
The Devils tacked on six runs in the second frame, with four of those runs being unearned. Ricky Marinello singled and Bill Smith followed with a double to score Marinello and extend the lead to 3-0. After Matt Healy singled to put runners on first and third, Lucas Cittone lofted a sacrifice fly to score Smith and up the advantage to 4-0. Joey Santillo hit a fly ball to the outfield that was misplayed into a three-base error. Healy scored on the play to give FDU-Florham a 5-0 lead. After DaSilva popped up in the infield for the second out, Franzese was hit by a pitch and Bellino singled to score Santillo and make it 6-0. Another Wilkes error in the outfield on a ball hit by Tom Cifrodella scored both Bellino and Franzese to extend the lead to 8-0.
Wilkes closed to within 8-2 with two runs in their half of the second. Brad Woznisky singled and Justin Popovich walked to start the frame. After Jon Cohen grounded into a fielder’s choice that eliminated Popovich at second, Casey Kulago delivered an RBI-single to score Woznisky. Cohen, who advanced to second on the hit, scored on a single by Eric Wetzel.
DaSilva led off the fourth inning for FDU-Florham by reaching on a two-base error. He would move to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Franzese to push the lead to 9-2.
Wilkes got the run back in their half of the fourth. Kyle Stover singled and came around to score on a triple by Kyle Follweiler that pulled the Colonels within 9-3.
The Devils scored their final run in the sixth inning when Cittone, who was hit by a pitch, scored on a single by Franzese that made it 10-3. The Colonels answered right back in their half of the inning when Follweiler crossed the plate on a single by Chris Mayerski to close the gap to 10-4.
Wilkes would score their final run in their last at-bat. Mayerski singled with one out and moved to third on a two-out single by Woznisky. Justin Popovich would drive home Mayerski with a single to cut the final deficit to 10-5.
Lawrence Fabrizio was the winning pitcher for FDU-Florham. He went 5.2 innings and allowed 10 hits and four earned runs. Greg Warger earned a save after tossing the final 3.1 innings and giving up only one run and three hits. Mike Quinn suffered the loss on the hill for the Colonels after allowing all 10 runs, only three of which were earned, and 10 hits in eight innings of work.
Santillo and Smith had a single and double apiece to lead the Devils at the plate. Bellino was also credited with two hits. Mayerski had three hits to lead the Colonels, who out-hit FDU-Florham 13-10. Follweiler, Woznisky and Popovich chipped in with two hits each.

Matt LoPresto’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Wilkes University to a 5-4 Freedom Conference baseball win over Drew University and a split of their doubleheader at Artillery Park on Sunday. The Rangers held off a Wilkes seventh inning rally to earn a 6-5 victory in the opener.
The split moves Wilkes to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play heading into Tuesday’s non-conference game with Penn State Wilkes-Barre at Artillery Park at 3:00 p.m. Drew sees their records move to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Kyle Follweiler led off the seventh inning for the Colonels with a double. After Chris Mayerski was intentionally walked to put runners on first and second, LoPresto delivered a single up the middle to score Follweiler with the winning run.
Drew held a 3-1 lead before Wilkes erupted for three runs in the bottom of the third. Gennaro Zangardi and Eric Wetzel started the frame with consecutive singles. Zangardi would score and Wetzel would advance to third on a single by Follweiler. One out later, LoPresto was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brad Woznisky would give Wilkes a 4-3 lead with a single that scored both Wetzel and Follweiler.
The game would stay that way until the top of the seventh inning when the Rangers scored a run to tie the game at 4-4. Joe Cardinale laced a double to begin the inning. A single by Tom Caracciolo would advance Nixon Feliz, who was inserted as a pinch-runner for Cardinale, to third. Matt Vickers would deliver Feliz to the plate with a sacrifice fly and set the stage for the Colonels seventh inning heroics.
Kevin Konschak tossed a complete game for Wilkes to improve to 2-0 on the mound. Konschak allowed nine hits and three earned runs. Zack Bircks, who pitched the final 3.2 innings for Drew, was tagged with the loss after surrendering one run and seven hits.
Follweiler was 4-for-4 at the plate for Wilkes with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. LoPresto was 3-for-3 with a double, while Casey Kulago had a single and triple.
Cardinale had a double and homerun among his three hits to lead Drew offensively. Caracciolo added a pair of singles.
In game one, Drew scored single runs in the first four innings to take a 4-0 lead. Wilkes would rally to cut the lead to 4-2 after four frames when Follweiler cracked an inside the park homerun and Chris Mayerski followed with a solo homer. The Colonels would tack on one more run in the fifth to close the gap to 4-3. Kulago tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Geoff Miller to account for the Wilkes run.
Drew would score twice in the sixth inning to up their lead to 6-3. Matt Vickers and John Minio singled and moved to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by Vincent Buffone. Paul Kierstead would score both runners with a single.
Wilkes did not go quietly in their final at bat. LoPresto reach on an error and Kulago singled off of starting pitcher Edward Woodrow to place runners at first and third. Reliever Jonathan Murelli came on to strike out Miller for the first out of the inning. Wetzel then grounded out to first base for the second out. LoPresto and Kulago, who moved to second on the ground out by Wetzel, would both score on a double by Follweiler to close the gap to 6-5. After Mayerski was intentionally walked, Murelli got Paul Migliorino to pop out to second base to end the game.
Woodrow was credited with win after giving up three earned runs and seven hits in six innings. Murelli garnered a save after allowing one hit in one inning. Mike Toomey took the loss for Wilkes. He surrendered ten hits and three earned runs in seven innings of work.
Minio had a single and double to pace the Rangers at the plate. Caracciolo, Vickers and Kierstead added two hits apiece.
Follweiler had a single, double and homerun and drove in three runs for Wilkes. Kulago added a single and triple.

Drew University pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie and post a 5-3 Freedom Conference baseball victory over Wilkes University on Friday afternoon. The win improves the Rangers to 5-9 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while the Colonels see their records slide to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Drew took a 1-0 lead in the first when Dante LaPenta tripled and scored on a single by Joe Henrikson. The Rangers would up their advantage to 3-0 in the third with a pair of runs. Matt Hicks cracked a solo homer to up the lead to 2-0. Later in the inning Joe Cardinale singled to plate LaPenta, who had reached on a base hit.
Wilkes cut the lead to 3-2 with two runs in the fourth frame. Kyle Follweiler opened the inning with a single. Chris Mayerski followed with a two-run homer to account for the Colonels runs.
Mayerski would pull Wilkes even in the sixth inning when he blasted a long two-out solo homerun to knot the count at 3-3.
In the Drew seventh Hicks led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by LaPenta. Henrikson would drive in Hicks with a triple that made it 4-3. Henrikson would score the final run for the Rangers on a sacrifice fly by Cardinale.
Justin Distler picked up the pitching victory for Drew by tossing a complete game. He surrendered only six hits and struck out six. Mike Quinn, who was tagged for all five runs and 12 hits in seven innings of work, took the loss for Wilkes.
Hicks and LaPenta had three hits apiece to lead the Rangers offensive attack. Henrikson chipped in with two hits. Mayerski was the lone two-time hitter for Wilkes.

Paul Giovannoli scattered six hits over eight innings of work and King’s College pounded out 15 hits against three different Wilkes University pitchers as the Monarchs notched a 9-1 victory over the Colonels in the Freedom Conference opner for both teams on Friday afternoon at Betzler Fields.
King’s improves to 5-6 overall with the win, while Wilkes sees their overall record fall to 4-3. The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Saturday when they meet in a twinbill at 12:00 p.m. at Artillery Park.
King’s jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Matt Livoy cracked an rbi-triple and Rob Medlock followed with a run-scoring double. The Monarchs would extend the lead to 3-0 in the second when Livoy drew a bases loaded walk.
Wilkes cut the lead to 3-1 in the third. Eric Wetzel led off with a double and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Follweiler.
The Monarchs would regain a three-run lead on a Livoy rbi-single in the fourth. King’s would add two more runs in the sixth on a two-run single by Livoy, and three more in the eighth to pull away.
Giovannoli was solid in his eight innings on the hill for King’s as he improved to 2-0. Mike Toomey, who surrendered four runs and seven hits in five innings, suffered the loss for Wilkes to slip to 1-1.
Livoy had three hits and drove in five runs to lead the Monarchs offensively. Vince Budzyn contributed three singles, while Medlock and Jeremy Faust had a single and double apiece.
Casey Kulago had two hits to pace the Colonels at the plate. Wetzel’s double and singles by Follweiler, Chris Mayerski and Matt LoPresto were the only other hits for Wilkes.

Case Western Reserve University posted an 14-7 non-conference baseball win over Wilkes University on Saturday morning in Cocoa Beach, Florida. The Spartans were making their season debut, while the Colonels end their spring trip with a record of 4-2.
John Thuermer picked up the pitching victory for Case Western. He went five innings and allowed two runs on three hits, while striking out six. Dan Nearhouse suffered the loss for Wilkes. He also pitched five innings and surrendered three runs on six hits, while fanning a pair.
Wilkes University suffered their first baseball loss of the season on Friday afternoon when they fell to Bridgewater State College 8-1 on Friday afternoon in Cocoa Beach, Florida. The Colonels see their record move to 4-1 overall, while the Bears were making their season debut.
