Math, Geometry, and Technology with K’NEX Education Math Sets and Your Favorite PC
Wednesday, April 2, 2008 - 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Join this day of math and geometry exploration as we explore math concepts and ways to creatively use manipulatives and computer resources in math instruction. Let’s explore ways that we can take math from the textbook and put it into the hands of our students and build on all of that computer know-how to add a technology component to our math classes. We will investigate fractions, decimals, polygons, polyhedra, area, perimeter, formulas, equations, solving equations, surface area, volume, etc. during this workshop.
The technology component of the program will highlight: 1. internet resources for the math teacher and student, 2. Excel™ spreadsheets for computation, formulas, and graphing, 3. Researching the history of mathematics. The program will cover a wide range of grade levels and provide opportunities for individuals with greater skills to move at their own pace while at the same time providing necessary support for those educators who would desire a more basic approach. Teachers in grades 5 - 8 may find the subject matter to be most useful but the program has been well received by high school math and support teachers as well as by elementary teachers with a special interest in mathematics. Each participant will receive a demonstration K’NEX Education math and geometry set that includes a Teacher’s Guide CD.
