Enrollment Leadership Announcement

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to share with you the news that Dr. Brian Dalton has been selected to become Wilkes University’s Vice President for Enrollment Services. Brian brings to Wilkes University 25 years of experience in higher education and a national reputation for his work in recruitment, retention, strategic thinking, and marketing, that will contribute greatly to the achievement of the goals in the University efforts in our Gateway to the Future Strategic Plan.

Most recently, Brian served as Vice President for Enrollment and College Relations at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa, where he was instrumental in producing strong enrollments, particularly in the areas of domestic and international diversity and out-of-state students. Brian served as Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management at Mercer University in Macon, Ga, during which time Mercer enrolled its largest freshman classes in a decade and its largest ever of incoming class of international students. He also introduced and oversaw implementation of the Mercer Pledge – Four Year Graduation Guarantee.  Dalton also served for 10 years as vice president for enrollment management and associate academic dean for program development at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. Prior to that, Brian worked at the University of the Incarnate Word/Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas, as dean of enrollment management. He began his career in admissions at Gannon University in Erie.

In 2011, the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers honored Brian with its award for outstanding leadership in strategic enrollment management.  He holds a B.A. in political science and a master of public administration from Gannon University. He earned a Ph.D. in education administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

Brian and his wife of 25 years, Diana, have three children: Abby, 23; Shawn, 21; and Ian, 18.

Brian will join us on October 10, and I know you will join me in welcoming him to campus.

I want to thank David Rhodes, Interim Vice President of Enrollment Services, for his fine service over the last seven months.  We wish him luck as he moves to a new enrollment position at Hilbert College.

Finally, I would like to express appreciation to the search committee, including Dr. Evene Estwick (Associate Professor of Communication Studies), Chanel Greene (Executive Director of Financial Aid), Dr. Bill Hudson (Dean, College of Science and Engineering), Dr. Don Mencer (Associate Professor and Chair, Chemistry), Izzi Metz (Head Coach, Men’s Basketball), Prof. Eric Ruggiero (Associate Professor and Chair, Integrative Media), Kim Bower-Spence (Director of Marketing), and student Vanessa Ejiofor.  Special thanks to Dr. Paul Adams (Vice President for Student Affairs) for his fine leadership as committee chair.

Thank you.

Anne A. Skleder, Ph.D.
