Wilkes University Running Club will Hold its 12th Annual Relay for Heat

The Wilkes University Running Club will hold its 12th annual Relay for Heat to raise funds to help the Commission for Economic Opportunity (CEO) assist local families in need with heating costs.

The event will take place on Saturday, February 27th on the Kingston dikes. The relay will start at 6 a.m. and lasts until we have covered 100 miles. Participants will primarily be Wilkes students, faculty, staff and alumni as well as other members of the community who have expressed an interest in helping.

Last year the club raised nearly $2,000 by collecting donations around campus and in the nearby community. All of the money raised will go to the Martin Luther King Fuel Fund, administered through the Wilkes-Barre CEO. As temperatures drop and heating costs increase dramatically, the community needs our help now more than ever.

Individuals can support the event by pledging a certain amount per mile covered or a fixed amount. Please make checks payable to Wilkes University Running Club, write the words “MLK Fuel Fund” on the memo line and send them to Relay for Heat, c/o Dr. William Terzaghi, running club advisor, Wilkes University, 84 W. South St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18766.

For more information please contact William Terzaghi at william.terzaghi@wilkes.edu or Eileen Friery, running club president, at eileen.friery@wilkes.edu.
