Call for Proposals: 2016 Women's and Gender Studies Conference
The Wilkes University Women’s and Gender Studies Program and the King’s College Women’s Studies Program are pleased to announce that we are now accepting submissions for the Spring 2016 Women’s and Gender Studies Conference to be held April 11th and 12th at Wilkes University. To submit a proposal, please go to the online submission page at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/93KMQ65 Proposals are due by February 19, 2016. This year’s theme is “Women, Politics, and Activism.” Students, faculty, staff, and community members who have conducted gender studies research projects, who wish to engage in performance art, and/or who would like to raise awareness about women’s, gender, and social justice issues are invited to present. Session types include research presentations, panel discussions, poster presentations, video screenings, and performance art (e.g., poetry slam, dramatic performance, dance). We also welcome presentations about service learning, community service, and travel abroad opportunities. While sessions do not have to relate directly to the conference theme, they must be tied to a gender-related issue. Faculty as well as students are encouraged to present. As you prepare your course syllabi for the spring, please consider adding student conference participation, such as a class presentation, as a component of your course. Students could be required to present a paper or group project at the conference, or to attend one or more sessions as a requirement or for extra credit. Students who participated in last year’s conference had a very positive experience, and we would like students from all disciplines to get involved. For more information or questions about the conference please contact Dr. Jennifer Thomas at firstname.lastname@example.org , Director of Women’s and Gender Studies, or Dr. Nicole Mares, Director of Women’s Studies at King’s College at email@example.com .
