Faculty Workshops – Tips and Tools for Student Engagement

Do you wish your students participated in class more? How do you really know if they “got it”?

As you finalize your syllabi and are thinking about your classroom strategies for the upcoming semester, now is a perfect time to plan and try out one new tool or strategy. Hear from your faculty colleagues on how they are engaging their students, gauging the learning process, and increasing participation and see the tools they use.

As part of the schedule, the new classroom clicker vendor will provide an overview of the new system they are rolling out. Since we have a number of faculty who have been using the clickers with the previous vendor, we wanted to provide an opportunity to see how the new system works.

The e-Learning Office will also be available for one-on-one Q&A for anyone teaching a class who has questions or needs assistance working out the final “techie” details. We can help with D2L/LIVE, our video platforms - Kaltura or MediaSpace, iTunesU, or any classroom technology applications. We can also answer questions related to teaching online or what it’s like to develop an online course. If this time slot does not work, feel free to make an appointment with anyone from the e-Learning staff by emailing elearning@wilkes.edu to find a time that works for you.

We are aware there are conflicts for some faculty, so for those who cannot attend, but have an interest in hearing about the material, please let us know. We can work to schedule related sessions at other times during the semester, meet one-on-one, or have the faculty presenters share their materials with you.

Are you interested in sharing what you are doing in your classes, face-to-face or online, at a future session like this? Please contact Kristine Pruett at kristine.pruett@wilkes.edu or ext. 4676. Similarly, if there is a topic you would like to hear about, please let Kristine know.

Come out and hear what your colleagues are doing! Hope to see you there!
