At Meridian Health, you're never far from what matters most in your life. The balance our team members keep between their very full personal and professional lives is a priority. That's why we strive to provide programs and services that help our team members find that balance. Our goal is to take the very best care of our team members, so they can take the very best care of our patients.

Responsibilities:

The Geriatric Interdisciplinary Fellowship Training (GIFT) program at Meridian Health is an 8 week summer fellowship, beginning  June 10, 2015, that offers medical, nursing and allied health students an opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver and evaluate care to older adults across the continuum of services in an award winning health system in central NJ. Students will be provided with experiences in a state of the art “Acute Care of the Elderly” (ACE) Unit in a community hospital and will rotate through a university teaching hospital, a sub-acute unit, home care, long term care and private practice settings. Under the guidance of board certified geriatricians, geriatric pharmacists and geriatric advance practice and clinical scholar nurses, the medical, nursing and allied health student will have the opportunity to practice selected professional skills and procedures and participate in evidenced based initiatives and quality improvement activities. An additional 2 hours per week will be scheduled for professional seminars and team conferences culminating in the implementation of an interdisciplinary evidence based team project.

A primary goal of the program is to encourage students to pursue a career in gerontology, thus, qualified students with an interest in working with the older adult patient population are particularly encouraged to apply.

Students participating in the GIFT program will receive training in a superb academic environment with a commitment to providing the best care for older adults. Participants will be scheduled to work 26 hours a week including two hours of lectures/group work. Students will be paid an hourly stipend for participation in the program.
