Empty Bowls Raises Money For Area Food Banks At Wilkes University on Oct. 29
Nothing warms up the soul like a hot bowl of soup and helping those in need. Wilkes University, in partnership with King's College, Luzerne County Community College and Wyoming Seminary, will hold its 6th annual Empty Bowls event to benefit local food banks. This year’s event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29 in the Henry Student Center Ballroom, 84 W. South St., Wilkes-Barre. Since being established in 2012, more than $50,000 has been raised.
Empty Bowls is a nationwide event that was first brought to Luzerne County by Jean Adams, a ceramics instructor at Wilkes. Participants donate $15 for soup, bread, a drink and a bowl that is handmade by one of several local artists. The cost for children 12 and under is $5 and does not include a bowl. Additional bowls will be available for sale on the day of the event.
