Online Master's Degree in Instructional Media

The online degree in Instructional Media is a joint effort of Wilkes University and Discovery Education. This 30-credit program in instructional media will prepare teachers to engage today’s students in learning through digital media. It will train teachers to become specialists who can effectively blend academic rigor with the latest technology, from video to Web 2.0 to virtual field trips.

 

The course of study couples advanced online resources and delivery methods with the very best in instructional media, content and training. Nationally known educational leaders, including Kathy Schrock, are helping to shape the course content.

The program consists of 21 credits of foundation and general pedagogy courses and 9 credits of electives.

Foundations and pedagogy courses (21 credits)

  • EDIM 501 Cognition and Technology: Aligning Brain-based Research and Technology Integration (3 credits)
  • EDIM 502 Project-based Learning (3 credits)
  • EDIM 503 Differentiation Supported by Technology (3 credits)
  • EDIM 504 Digital Storytelling (3 credits)
  • EDIM 507 Using Technology to Support Creativity (3 credits)
  • EDIM 508 Digital Media in the Classroom (3 credits)
  • ED 520 Using Assessment to Guide Instruction (3 credits)


Elective courses (choose 9 credits)

  • EDIM 510 Web 2.0 Impacting Learning Environments (3 credits)
  • EDIM 511 Portable Video Production and Application (3 credits)
  • EDIM 513 Inquiry-based Learning (3 credits)
  • EDIM 514 Internet Tools for Teaching (3 credits)
  • ED 587 Technology Leadership (3 credits)
* Classes will run in a seven-week format with two sessions offered in the fall and spring and summer semesters.

To Apply
Complete the Online Application

If you have never applied to a Wilkes University graduate program you will be required to submit a $35 application fee.

To be accepted you must mail the following additional documents:

    * Official transcripts from any undergraduate institutions you attended
    * Two completed Graduate Recommendation Forms (link text to form)
    * Teacher certification is not required.

Upon completion of the online application you will be given a Wilkes Identification Number (WIN) and other information that will allow you to log into the Wilkes Portal.

Be sure to make note of your WIN and other important information.

The Portal gives students the ability to register for courses online, view and print grades and unofficial transcripts, make use of the online library services and see other information that is pertinent to Wilkes University graduate students.

Registration closes one week prior to the start of each session.

You can always log into the Wilkes University Portal by going to mywilkes.wilkes.edu.
