Travel to Campus

Travel from Major International Airports
 

There are five airports you can use to get to Wilkes University.  However, we strongly suggest that you fly into the closest which is Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AVP).  From AVP, you can take a taxi to Wilkes-Barre for about $40 USD.  Please contact Georgia with your arrival information when you get it (email: georgia.costalas@wilkes.edu or   phone: 570-408-7854).

If you cannot travel to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton airport but will be traveling from one of the other international airports, please see instructions below.  A taxi from the airport in New York City, Newark or Philadelphia will cost several hundred dollars and will take about 3-4 hours.  A taxi, shuttle, and bus, combination will cost at least USD$100 from the airport to Wilkes-Barre and will take up to six additional hours of travel.

 

Take a taxi to your address in Wilkes-Barre or to the Public Safety Office of Wilkes University located at 148 South Main Street.  Public Safety phone is 1 570 408 4999.  Taxi cost will be about USD $40.00

By Bus:
New York Airport Service Express Bus--The fare for this bus is approximately $15 USD.  The buses operate every twenty to thirty minutes and run from 6 a.m. until 12 midnight.  The trip lasts 60 minutes and stops at several places in the city, including the 8th street entrance to the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
 
By Taxi to New York City:
Taxis into the city take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes.  They cost a “Flat Fare” of approximately $45 USD.  This price does not include the cost of bridge tolls and tip.  Most taxis in New York are cash only.  Make sure to hail a cab in the designated taxi areas or ask a uniformed airport employee for help.  Ask that the driver take you to Port Authority, which is the bus terminal in the city where you can get a ticket to Wilkes-Barre.

By Bus:
Newark Liberty Airport Express--The ride on this bus costs about $15 USD.  The buses run from approximately 4 a.m. until 1 a.m.  Buses run every 15 minutes and the trip is between 45 minutes to an hour to get into New York City.  Tickets can be purchased online, but not from the driver.  The bus will go to Port Authority Bus Terminal.  To contact by phone, dial 1-877-863-9275.
 
By Taxi to New York City:
Taxis from Newark take anywhere from 20-45 minutes to get into New York.  They cost between $30 and $40 USD not including bridge tolls (which can cost as much as $15 USD more).  Most taxis are cash only.  Be sure to hail a cab in the designated taxi areas or ask a uniformed airport employee for assistance.  Ask the driver to take you to Port Authority Bus Terminal.

To reach Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania:

When you arrive at Port Authority, you must find the Martz Trailways windows. Ask for a ticket to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania - there are several trips each day. Cost of the ticket is approximately $50 USD. There are luggage restrictions and luggage must be labeled with Name and Address (Wilkes University, 84 West South Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18766; phone: 570-408-4106) (http://martztrailways.com/departures-from-new-york/ ).  

From Bus station to Campus:
The bus station is about 3 blocks from campus. Walk or take a taxi to the Public Safety Office of Wilkes University located at 148 South Main Street.  The phone number for Public Safety is 1-570-408-4999.
By Taxi to Bus Station:

Taxis can be obtained at Zone 5 on the Commercial Transportation Roadway at the airport.  There is an approximate flat fee of $27 USD to get into Central Philadelphia.  There may be additional fees as well based on travel from the airport.  Ask that the driver take you to the Greyhound Bus Terminal at 11th and Filbert Street.  All taxis take cash; some taxi companies in Philadelphia will take a credit card.

At the Greyhound Bus Terminal, purchase a one-way ticket to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.  Cost is approximately $50.
