Electrical Machines Lab (SLC 29)

Students perform experiments on single-phase and three-phase transformers, dc motors and generators, electromechanical energy conversion devices, synchronous motors and generators, three-phase and single-phase induction motors. Equipment includes:

  • Universal Lab Machine (2 Units)
  • Synchronous Motor (3 Ph, 3 HP, 60 Hz, 120/208 V, 17.5/10 A, 1800 RPM)
  • DC Machines (3 HP/2 kW, 125 V, 12 A, 1400 RPM) (2 Units)
  • Induction Motor (3 Ph, 3 HP, 208 V, 9 A, 1725 RPM, Squirrel Cage)
  • Induction Motor (3Ph, ½ HP, 220 V, 1.4 A, 1725 RPM, Wound Rotor)
  • Induction Motors(1 Ph, 1/3 HP, 125 V, 5.8 A) (4 Units)
  • Magnetic Amplifier Regulators (0 -125 V, 20 A DC) (3 Units)
  • Transformers (1 PH, 1 kW, 120, 240 / 120, 240 V) (3 Units)
  • Transformer Bench ( 3 identical units of 1 kW, 120/240 V, 60 Hz with meters)
  • AC Motor Controller
  • DC Motor Controller
  • Thyristor-based Motor Controllers (3 Units)

A universal lab machine is capable of performing over 40 experiments on dc motors and generators, synchronous generators, synchronous motors and single phase/three phase induction motors. A transformer bench facilitates more than 12 experiments on single phase/three phase transformers.

This laboratory supports Energy Conversion Devices (EE 325).
