Wilkes University encourages employment applications from persons with diverse backgrounds and also recognizes the benefits of promoting from within the University.

The University’s job posting process supports our commitment to provide equal employment opportunities to all qualified external candidates and University employees.

The Human Resources department is responsible for posting all open positions. To begin the process, hiring managers must complete and submit a job description and an approved personnel requisition. Upon receipt of a job description and an approved personnel requisition, Human Resources will announce the position opening on Today@Wilkes. Open positions are posted on Wilkes University Careers external website for at least 7 calendar days. Eligible employees may apply as long as the open position is still listed on the website.

Employees are considered eligible to apply for an open position if they:

  • Meet or exceed the minimum requirements for the position as posted.
  • Have been actively employed by the University for at least one year.
  • Meet or exceed the expectations of their current position as documented in their most recent performance evaluation.

Employees who are currently on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) or who are currently subject to disciplinary action are NOT eligible to apply for open positions.

Supervisors and employees should maintain an open dialogue to develop career plans and support employees' efforts to gain experience and advance within the University. Current supervisors may be contacted to verify performance and/or attendance records as part of the job application process. The current department’s staffing limitations or other circumstances that might affect a prospective transfer may also be discussed with the supervisor at this time.

External candidates and eligible employees can apply and receive full consideration for an open position by submitting an application and any other requested documentation in accordance with the specified posting instructions. While the University believes in promoting current employees who are qualified for open positions, applying for a position does not guarantee that employees will receive any extraordinary consideration. The final candidate is selected by the hiring manager based on qualifications, knowledge, skills and abilities related to performing the essential functions, duties and responsibilities of the position.

In general, notices of all regular, full-time job openings are posted via this process. However, with the exception of the President, Vice Presidents, Provost and Dean positions, the University reserves the discretionary right to not post a particular opening for reasons including, but not limited to:

  • Reclassification of a current employee’s position to reflect a change in duties, department and/or responsibilities.
  • A position’s hours or schedule change with no change in responsibilities.
  • A department or unit is reorganized and no additional staff is hired.
